We are pleased to announce that we are the exclusive legal partner of Mythos Manchester, the major new film, television and creative industries event set to take place on 11th June.
Positioned as the ‘Cannes of the North’, Mythos Manchester will bring together more than 300 senior figures from across film, television, gaming, technology, finance and investment for a day of conversations, collaboration and deal-making focused on the future of the UK’s creative economy.
Our partnership with Mythos Manchester reflects the firm’s long-standing support for the North West’s creative, digital and technology sectors, alongside its commitment to helping innovative businesses scale sustainably and protect the value of their ideas.
Leading the partnership for Slater Heelis is Carla Murray, Partner and Head of Commercial, whose career uniquely bridges both the legal and creative industries having co-founded and ran a creative design agency alongside her legal career. Being directly involved in this industry has given Carla first-hand experience of the realities facing start-up’s and entrepreneurial creative businesses; from client negotiations and contracts to cashflow, intellectual property, revenue sharing models to navigating a business through difficult economic conditions.
Carla is recognised by The Legal 500 as a Leading Individual for IT & Technology Law and is delighted that Slater Heelis is partnering with Mythos Manchester where she will also be leading the panellist discussion looking at the film and TV entrepreneurial approach at the main event on the 11 June, discussing how to move beyond traditional models, IP ownership, creative entrepreneurship and the business of building sustainable independent content businesses in the UK.
Carla Murray, Partner and Head of Commercial said: “Creative businesses are one of the UK’s most exciting growth sectors, but they also operate in an increasingly complex commercial landscape where intellectual property, AI, technology, investment and collaboration are all deeply interconnected.
“What attracted us to Mythos Manchester is that it’s not simply another conference. It’s founder-led, ambitious and genuinely focused on creating meaningful opportunities for regional creative talent, producers, investors and innovators. My own background means I understand the realities behind the ideas. Creative businesses need commercially practical advice from people who understand how the industry actually works day-to-day, whether that’s production agreements, licensing, investment structures or protecting valuable IP.
“Manchester has an extraordinary creative heritage and technology ecosystem and Mythos Manchester brings those worlds together in a way that feels incredibly relevant and forward-looking and we’re proud to support it as the official legal partner.”
We also have exclusive brand association with the House of Dogstar, a creative industries platform built around three interconnected pillars. Its membership community, launching in 2026, is a year-round, regionally rooted network for producers, writers, directors and creative entrepreneurs at every career stage, offering industry insights, a jobs board, webinars and in-person events including its flagship gathering, Mythos Manchester. Its private platform connects creative projects and businesses with aligned investors and brands through a curated matchmaking model. And Dogstar Studios develops and produces bold, world-class film and TV with global resonance, combining creative instinct with financial innovation. Together, the three pillars form an ecosystem where community, capital and content reinforce each other, built for the people who make the creative industries move.
Rachel McClelland, co-founder of Mythos Manchester, said: “From the outset, we wanted Mythos Manchester to bring together not just creative talent, but the wider ecosystem needed to support sustainable growth across the industry. Having Slater Heelis on board as our official legal partner is incredibly important because they genuinely understand the sector. Carla’s experience and insight make them a natural fit for what we’re building by creating an environment where ideas, investment and opportunity can meet and where regional talent can access the relationships and support needed to bring projects to life.”
Mythos Manchester takes place on Thursday 11 June 2026 at ABC Buildings, St John’s District, Manchester. For more information visit www.stateofmythos.com.
