Divorce and separation is difficult, and there’s no getting around it. But it doesn’t have to mean prolonged conflict, expensive court battles, and months of stress for everyone involved. That’s why we’re backing Resolution’s Good Divorce Week.

From 10-14 November 2025, we’re supporting Good Divorce Week, a campaign that promotes a more sensible, less confrontational approach to divorce and separation. One that puts families first, keeps conflict to a minimum, and helps people find a practical way through.

What is Good Divorce Week?

Resolution represents thousands of family law professionals across England and Wales who follow a Code of Practice focused on constructive ways of resolving family disputes.

This year’s campaign—the Year of the Code—demonstrates what sets Resolution-trained solicitors apart and why that training matters when you’re dealing with something as significant as separation.

Our approach

Our family law solicitors are trained on resolution matters, which means we prioritise:

Family wellbeing over conflict.

We consider what matters to everyone involved, particularly children. Their best interests should be central to every decision made.

Practical solutions over confrontation.

We help you resolve issues properly without unnecessary aggravation or delay. We’ll help avoid lengthy court processes that can damage relationships and pile on the stress.

Straightforward advice about what matters.

We explain what different decisions mean for your finances and family life, in plain English. You’ll understand your options properly, which puts you in a better position to decide what’s right for the future.

Respect for everyone.

You’ll be listened to and treated fairly. So will the other parties involved. Maintaining dignity and professionalism matters, even during difficult circumstances.

The current family court crisis

This year’s Good Divorce Week also highlights a serious problem affecting separating couples—the family court system is under severe strain causing long delays.

Currently, over 1,000 new cases enter the family courts every working day. The average case duration has increased by 36% since 2018. Families already under pressure are facing long waiting periods to resolve their cases.

Resolution is calling on the Government to invest in early legal support because when people receive proper guidance at the outset, they’re far more likely to reach agreement without court involvement.

Our experience confirms this: timely, constructive advice helps couples find agreements that work for everyone, particularly where children are concerned.

There is a better way

At Slater Heelis, we support people through separation with practical guidance and a straightforward non-judgmental approach. Whether you’re dealing with divorce, financial arrangements, or decisions about children, we’ll help you find what works for your particular circumstances.

Separation doesn’t need to mean battle lines and hostility. There’s a more constructive path—one built on respect, clear communication and protecting your children’s wellbeing.

Throughout Good Divorce Week and beyond, we’re committed to helping families find workable solutions that allow everyone to move forward properly.
