At Slater Heelis, 2023 has been a year of remarkable milestones and significant growth. As we reflect on our journey over the past year, we’re proud to share our accomplishments, from breaking records in legal rankings to actively participating in community service, all underscoring our commitment to being a progressive, trustworthy, and results-focused firm!

Chambers & Partners

This year marked a series of unprecedented achievements in the Chambers rankings, a testament to our team’s expertise and dedication. Our Family Law solicitors soared to Band 1 for the first time, reflecting their exceptional expertise and compassionate approach to family law. We’re also thrilled to see our Criminal Law team make an impressive debut at Band 2, with Rachel Fletcher (Head of Crime & Regulatory, Partner) achieving Band 1 on her first submission.

Our Associates, Helen Harradine and Sally Tomlinson, were recognised as “Associates to Watch”, an excellent accolade to receive. Simon Wallwork, from our Corporate Law team, maintained his top spot in Band 1, and Kenneth Salmon earned ‘Senior Statesperson’, a title he’s held for nine years!

Legal 500

For the first time, we ranked in the Personal Tax, Trusts, and Probate category. Our Property Litigation team also progressed to Tier 5, with new recommendations for John Gorner, Mike Carter, Veronica Howley, and Dan Leone – a testament to our team’s depth and expertise.

Our Crime team’s recognition as a ‘team to watch’ underlines their ability to handle complex criminal cases to an extraordinarily high level.

The Contentious Trusts & Probate Lawyer recommendations included Veronica Howley and John Gorner.

Embracing Diversity

In line with our commitment to inclusion and diversity, we welcomed Michael Duckworth, Tasneem Rahman, and Doug Grant as our newest LGBTQ+ Champions. They join a team who have undergone extensive training to support our colleagues and clients alike. This initiative is a crucial part of our mission to create an inclusive work environment and provide nuanced, empathetic service to our LGBTQ+ clients.

Fostering Wellness and Wellbeing

Our Wellness and Wellbeing Committee played a key role in promoting mental health and resilience among our team through the Rugby League Cares’ Offload programme. The series of workshops addressed crucial aspects of wellness, from managing stress to building resilience, reflecting our belief in the importance of a balanced, healthy work environment.

Giving Back to the Community

In celebration of our 250th anniversary, we launched a 250-charity day initiative, surpassing our goal with 253 volunteer days. Our team’s engagement in various community projects, from St Ann’s Hospice to the LGBT Foundation, underscores our commitment to making a positive impact in society.

Expansion and Growth

2023 was also a year of significant expansion. Our acquisition of insolvency practice, N.J Goodman & Co, has broadened our service offerings, particularly in insolvency law. This growth, coupled with the addition of 30 new recruits, has enhanced our ability to provide comprehensive legal services across diverse areas.

We’re looking forward to making 2024 a great one too!
