Celebrating 250 years

In 2023, we celebrate our origins dating back 250 years. We have a lot to be thankful for in reaching such a significant milestone.

We’re proud of how we have adapted and developed since 1773, and even in so much as the last few decades. As we reflect on how far we’ve come, we also look ahead to the future and how we can develop our business to continue to survive and thrive through the positives and challenges of the world around us.

Vision & Achievements

We are pleased to have such a diverse and talented group of people working for us in all areas of the business. Some have been here for decades, others have joined us within the past few years and been instrumental in driving us forward toward being a more sustainable business.

Our Employee Share Incentive Scheme is launching in January which will help us demonstrate to our colleagues how much we value them, offering free shares for qualifying staff.

Activity

We will of course be having various celebrations throughout the year to bring together clients, peers and other businesses who support us in delivering our story and services to the people of Greater Manchester and beyond.

We also want to be able to give back to the communities in which we work.

Our key initiative for 2023 is 250 Charity Days for 250 Years.

With a view to hit 250 employees by the end of 2023, we are encouraging all staff to take a paid day away from the office to volunteer with a range of local charities and organisations, from supporting local young people in the community, helping out at food banks and donating our time to helping with deliveries, collections and gardening to name a few. To see all of the charities we will be supporting in one way or another, read up on our CSR here.

Keep an eye on our socials for updates each month!

We will also be installing a new bench in the Cyril Flint sunken gardens with a Slater Heelis plaque, for service users and volunteers to take in its lovely surroundings throughout the year. We will also be burying a time capsule next to the bench in the garden which will be filled with a variety of Slater Heelis memorabilia from bygone years as well as something to mark out 250 years, to be uncovered again in decades to come!

Partnerships

To mark this momentous year, we have developed partnerships with organisations that are also celebrating landmark anniversaries this year. Coincidentally they are both educational institutions, offering very different career paths for a full spectrum of young people across the region.

Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is a new partnership for 2023. If you know our Managing Partner, Chris Bishop, you’ll know he is a strong advocate of the joy that the arts can bring to our lives, and the support that the private sector can give to help it thrive.

RNCM is celebrating 50 years in 2023, and it’s a pleasure to be sharing our anniversary with such a lovely and supportive organisation. We hope to see some of you there throughout the year!

We have had a connection with Connell College for a number of years, but in 2022 we really saw that relationship develop. We have offered workshops, talks and work experience as well as apprenticeship opportunities to students at the college and look forward to seeing this partnership develop further in the coming years.

Connell College is celebrating 10 years in 2023 and we wish them the very best in many strong years to come.
