If you are currently in the UK on a visit visa and have been impacted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, please read the following guidance carefully:

1. Contact Your Embassy or Consulate

We would suggest that you initially contact your country’s embassy or consulate in the UK. They may be able to provide support, updates, or documentation.
If you are unable to locate or reach them, please ask for help from local authorities, community organisations, or legal aid services.

2. Inform Friends and Family

Let your friends and family know you are safe. Stay in touch with them so you can remain informed about the situation in your home country and any developments that may affect your return.

3. Do Not Overstay Your Visa Without Taking Action

Remaining in the UK beyond your visa expiry without notifying the Home Office can affect your immigration status. It is important to act promptly.

4. Apply for Leave Outside the Rules (LOTR)

If you are unable to return home due to:

  • Armed conflict or war
  • Closure of your country’s embassy in the UK
  • Suspension of flights or border closure

You may be eligible to apply for Leave Outside the Immigration Rules (LOTR).

This allows you to remain in the UK temporarily under exceptional circumstances.

You will need to provide:

  • Evidence of the conflict (e.g. news articles, government advisories)
  • Proof that you cannot return (e.g. flight cancellations, embassy notices)
  • Your passport and visa documentation

5. Claiming Asylum (If You Fear Persecution)

If returning to your country would put you at risk of serious harm or persecution, you may be eligible to apply for asylum in the UK. This is a legal process and should be considered if your safety is at risk due to war, religion, political opinion, or other protected grounds.

6. Stay Updated

Monitor updates from:

  • The UK Home Office
  • Your country’s embassy (online or via social media)
  • Trusted news sources

Please do not hesitate to contact us at Slater Heelis for an initial consultation if you have any concerns regarding your current status in the United Kingdom.
