Chris Partington is one of just 22 solicitors to be appointed to the Office of the Public Guardian’s Guardianship Panel, following the introduction of a new law. He is a Partner & Head of Private Client at Slater Heelis, and a Court of Protection Panel Deputy.
Claudia’s Law
Claudia’s Law, the Guardianship (Missing Persons) Act 2017, will help control the financial affairs of people who have been missing for 90 days or more.
The law is named in memory of Claudia Lawrence, who went missing on her way to work in 2009. Her dad, Peter Lawrence, campaigned for change after finding that families of missing people had no legal right to step in and manage their affairs. Claudia’s Law can provide some peace of mind to families in a period of high stress and worry.
Missing Persons with no Next of Kin
Chris can act in the best interests of missing persons, managing their assets when there is no next of kin.
He has over 15 years of experience advising on all aspects of Estate Planning, Wills & Probate, and the Court of Protection. As a Professional Attorney, Chris acts on behalf of, or to protect, mentally incapacitated individuals.
On appointment to the Guardianship Panel, Chris said: “Being appointed to the new Panel is a huge privilege and I’m keen to support and work with the families and friends of individuals who are missing. Allowing a Panel Guardian control over the assets of a missing person is in their best interest and ensures everything is kept in order to avoid unnecessary debts and protect their financial position.”
