Slater Heelis team complete the Manchester 10k run

Over the weekend, members of the Slater Heelis team took on the Great Manchester 10k run in support of two great charities; Myositis UK and the Dianne Oxbury Trust. At Slater Heelis, we pride ourselves on having a positive mindset and making a positive impact in the community when we can, which is why we are so proud of those who dedicated huge amounts of time and effort to the event.

This year, the Slater Heelis team took part in the event to support two great charities that are close to home for two of our colleagues.

One participant in this year’s run is Gaby Basiuk from our family team, who recently lost her father to a rare but debilitating illness called Myositis, which motivated her to run in this years event to raise awareness for the illness. There is very little awareness of the disease amongst health professionals in the U.K, meaning crucial treatment may be missed before it is too late. Myositis UK is a charity providing information on Dermatomyositis, Polymyositis, Inclusion Body Myositis and Juvenile Dermatomyositis. The charity raises funds to help and promote medical research that improves diagnosis, treatment, management and understanding of these diseases.

As well as supporting Myositis UK, members of the team also ran in support of the Dianne Oxberry Trust. Due to Slater Heelis being based in Sale and surrounding areas, our participants saw it fit that we support the trust, as Dianne was a very active member of the Sale and Cheshire community; using her position at the BBC to make a positive impact in the local community where it was needed most. The money raised for this cause will be used to help families and individuals who have, or are suffering from ovarian cancer.

When asked about the event and what motivated him to sign up for this year’s run, David Wilkinson from our family law team said; “I signed up to this year’s run to help support two of my brilliant colleagues – Gaby and Tricia – both of whom have done an outstanding job raising funds for very worthy causes.”

David went on to say; “The Manchester 10K is a fantastic event to be a part of and our Corporate, Dispute Resolution, and Family teams did an incredible job with fundraising and smashing their own personal best’s – Well done all!”

Mark from our Corporate Commercial team agreed that the event was a massive success for Slater Heelis, as he went to say; “It was a really good day and everybody smashed it! Hopefully we can get more people involved next year and raise even more money for great causes!”

Patricia Robinson, who is a Partner at Slater Heelis said; “The run was a really great event. The crowds of people watching really spurred me on and I even got to high five Clint Boon!  I felt very proud running it for the Myositis charity in memory of Gaby’s dad and the Dianne Oxberry Trust. The latter is a charity very close to my heart as Dianne’s son is my son’s friend.”

From the whole Slater Heelis team, we would like to say a huge congratulations to everyone who participated in this years Great Manchester Run and we hope that we see even more people participating to raise money for well worthwhile causes next year.
