On 1 June 2012 Sale based law firm Slater Heelis converted to a limited liability partnership. From that date the business of Slater Heelis transferred to Slater Heelis LLP which will operate in a way similar to that of a limited company. The move comes as three of the firm’s longest serving members of staff, Will Henson (Partner), Chris Partington (Partner & Head of Private Client) and Mark Heptinstall (Partner & Collaborative Lawyer) are made equity members.
The origins of Slater Heelis in Manchester date back to 1773 and the decision to move to LLP status is a major one for the firm, marking their commitment to the 70 members of staff and thousands of clients. The business will continue to use the title “Partner” which will relate to both members and non-members alike.
The LLP status will create a new internal flexibility within Slater Heelis, enabling more staff members to contribute to the management of the partnership. It also affords a limited degree of protection to members of the practice, whilst maintaining the high level of client care that Slater Heelis has become well known for. All of the current engagements of the existing Slater Heelis partnership will be undertaken by the LLP following conversion
Mike Fox, Managing Partner of Slater Heelis, comments: “Taking the practice to LLP status is a big investment for us in the future of our business. We already have a superb team of committed professionals who are passionate about what we do and we want to bring them closer into the business and make it more attractive to them and more appealing for new people to join us in the future.
We’re also delighted to recognise the hard work and dedication of three of our longest serving members of staff who now become equity members.”
