CAFCASS assist in almost 40,000 new cases

The Court and Family Advisory and Support Service (known as CAFCASS) have reported that in 2016, they were appointed  to assist on 39,978 new  private law cases. This is an 8.8% increase from 2015.

CAFCASS are an independent organisation that assist the Courts by representing the children’s interests in family law cases.

They mainly work with families in three areas being divorce/separation, care proceedings and adoption. From the outset, families are encouraged to work together and complete a parenting plan to avoid court intervention.
