Tony Lloyd, interim Mayor of Greater Manchester, was the most recent guest to be lightly toasted by journalist and author Michael Taylor at the popular breakfast seminar series run by Slater Heelis LLP.
In answering questions from the 75-strong audience, Lloyd indicated that whoever took on the role of mayor across the 10 local authorities would have to focus on creating an atmosphere friendly to business.
This included examining the planning system to ensure Greater Manchester had the capability to grow and support new businesses and new residents, and to concentrate efforts to streamline roadworks and other disruptions on the regions’ roads.
Members of the audience, drawn from some of the region’s leading companies, supported Lloyd’s aspirations for an engaged business community, and his focus on implementing projects that would help and not hinder business growth.
Chris Bishop, managing partner at Manchester-based Slater Heelis LLP and the organiser of the In Conversation event, commented: “Tony was facing an informed audience and handled the issues concerning businesses with great care and attention.”
Slater Heelis’ In Conversation events allow invited delegates from the region’s business community to put questions to the people who are forging the business, economic and political agendas across the region. One of the property development sector’s leading personalities – and the person responsible for some of the most iconic buildings in Manchester city centre – is scheduled to be the next guest at the In Conversation With event on 10 December.
