Individuals engaged on Zero Hours Contracts losing out on holidays

According to recent research conducted by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), more than 900,000 are currently engaged on zero hours contracts. The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) has now reported that around half of these individuals are not aware of their holiday pay entitlements. The CAB has stated that employers are either ignorant of workers’ rights themselves or are “deliberately flouting the law” by denying workers their rights to paid holiday leave. The CAB has confirmed that of the 185,000 people who sought help from them in the last financial year, 10,000 cases were related to holiday pay. The CAB has called for more help to protect workers and enable them to enforce their rights. This would include setting up a single body to receive the enforcement of all employment rights and a £50 cap on Employment Tribunal fees.
